A return of glitz and glamour
STUDENTS in Years 10 to 12 dressed in their finest and enjoyed a special night for their formal ball last Saturday.
Some students brought external partners for the event, which was catered by the staff of Derrinallum P-12 College.
Principal Caitlyn Fitzgerald said the event was the first formal dance the school has held in six years.
“The kids were really interested in holding something along the lines of a dance, ball or formal,” she said.
“We looked into what the options were, and we decided that, because of numbers and societal beliefs, we just went with a ball – not a presentation ball, but just a senior school ball for the kids to enjoy.
“We organised a local DJ and some decorations.
“The Progress Association hired us the hall so we could do it locally, and the staff catered for the function.”
Ms Fitzgerald said the night was “really good” with the students enjoying themselves.
“We had, considering our numbers, a high participation rate, and a couple of external partners that added to the numbers,” she said.
“They were really excited, really positive, exceptionally well-behaved, and had a great time.
“We have plans to run it again in Term One next year, so we’re going to pick it when it’s a little bit nicer to be wearing a formal dress for the weather to be a little bit kinder to us.
“The kids have already started preparations for next year.”
Ms Fitzgerald extended her gratitude to the staff members who volunteered their time for the formal.
