Indoor market to launch

THE Civic Hall in Terang will play host to a new indoor Maker’s Market this weekend with up to 40 stallholders putting locally produced wares on the tables.

The Rotary Club of Terang is helping to host the event which will feature a wide range of stalls from a diverse array of local makers.

“This will be an indoor market which highlights to amazing goods being produced by people in Terang and the south west district,” Rotary Club of Terang treasurer Barry Wickham said.

“We will have everything from makers and bakers to growers who are hoping to avoid the outdoor markets due to the wind and rain in winter which can make crowds smaller and damage goods.

“The outdoor markets are not on so we thought it would be good if one could be inside to give them a market.

“Everything is locally made and produced,

Mr Wickham said this will be the Rotary club’s first indoor market in Terang, but success would see the concept run throughout winter.

“This will be our first indoor market but we’re planning it run it for the next three months if it is well received,” he +said.

“It looks like it will be okay at the moment, as all stalls booked out.

“We’ve received plenty of interest from local suppliers so we hope to see to see the community there to support it.”

The concept for the indoor Maker’s Market came about after Terang’s Anne Gready had first approached Rotary with the idea, as she had success helping to run a similar style market throughout Victoria before moving to the region recently.

“I lived in the Wimmera doing markets for about 14 years, which we did in Melbourne and across the state,” she said.

“But this is my first time setting up markets from scratch.

“I knew I wanted to do an indoor market because there is nothing like that in town.

“I make children’s clothes which blow over on windy days or can get damaged in the wet; but there was nothing like that in town, so I did what creative people do and decided to make one with some help of Rotary’s manpower.”

Ms Gready said there will be 35 to 40 stallholders featuring hand-made, home grown and home baked goods to entice all.

“There is an unbelievable amount of creative people in the greater Terang area,” she said.

“This is a chance for those who don’t do outdoor markets due to elements

“I researched for probably six months before I decided to definitely go ahead.”

Mr Wickham said Rotary will also be hosting a raffle and manning the barbecue as part of the day.

“An indoor market is a great opportunity to highlight the amazing goods being produced by Terang and district,” he said.

“Rotary will also have a raffle, with the prize being a big basket of goods.

“We will also have a sausage sizzle going so we’re hoping to see it embraced as a big family event.”

The market will be held at the Civic Hall this Saturday, June 15 from 9.30am to 1.30pm.
