Proud winner accepts keys

MERCY Regional College (MRC) has drawn its annual Car Raffle, with the keys to the MG ZS Excite demo model handed over to a lucky winner on Tuesday.

Nita Hill from Warrnambool was declared the winner of the first prize at MRC’s Mass of Thanksgiving and was thrilled with the win.

“I’m very, very excited,” she said.

“It’s amazing.

“Thank you very much Mercy Regional College for having the raffle.

“It’s wonderful.”

Mrs Hill attended the school with her family following the announcement, enjoying the opportunity to inspect her prize in-person.

Business Manager Jude Murfitt said the Car Raffle draw is always a highlight of the year.

“We offer our congratulations to Nita and all of our lucky winners,” she said.

“Our raffle is an exciting tradition and we appreciate everyone who purchased tickets in our major fundraiser.

“It is great to see the ongoing support and this year’s funds will be used to assist in purchasing new buses for the college.”

Car Raffle organiser Toby McKenzie acknowledged the support of the community.

“We thank all of the businesses who sponsored the nine fantastic prizes, and to the staff and parents who volunteered at the stall,” he said.

“We depend on local support and it was fantastic to see the community get behind us once again.”

The raffle was announced at the final assembly, which celebrated the year that has been including the presentation of gifts to the St Vinnies appeal and the end of year awards.

Principal Sharon Gillet acknowledged the achievements of students and staff in 2024.

“I thank everyone who donated gifts to our end of year appeal and the many other fundraisers during the school year,” she said.

“Congratulations also to all the award winners presented during our assembly who have displayed wonderful commitment and work ethic throughout the year.”

This year’s prize winners were:

First prize – MG ZS Excite (demo): Nita Hill;

Second prize -$2500 Quest Geelong Golf Getaway: Colin Bond;

Third prize - $2000 GBM Technology voucher: Gerald and Jenni Bourke;

Fourth prize - $1000 BP fuel voucher: Debbie Carrigan;

Fifth prize - $1000 Love Local Package, consisting of $50 vouchers to local businesses: The Cleaver Family;

Sixth prize – 12-month platinum membership to Cobdenhealth Community Fitness Centre: Rosemary Blackett;

Seventh prize – Apple Watch Series 9: Jesse Cottle;

Eighth prize - $400 local produce hamper from Greavesy’s Fruit and Veg, Terang: The Murfitts and Jaala; and

Ninth prize - $200 Showcase Jewellers voucher: Sharna Riches.
