Mrs Rowe was named club president at the Lions’ recent changeover dinner, officially receiving the gavel from outgoing president Alan Wentworth.

In his final report for 2023-2024, Mr Wentworth said he was amazed at how productive a small group of people could be.

“With new members brings new ideas and diversity within the club,” he said.

“These people can bring another way of looking at things we do and the way we set out to achieve our objectives.

“We had a very productive and satisfying year delivering our services and time to the community.

“These include Meals on Wheels, Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner, Christmas Carols at Market Square, parking cars and serving the winners and trainers room at Mortlake Races, assisting parking at the Noorat Show, gate at the Mortlake Gift and removing weeds at the cemetery.”

Treasurer Alex Hinkley noted in his report fundraisers including raffles and the sale of batteries had played an integral role in the continued support of both local initiatives and Lions International’s disaster relief efforts.

“We have donated to Australian Lions Wellbeing ($200), Caring for Kids ($260), Let’s Talk ($200), Licola Lions Village ($500), Operation Smile ($150), Lions Eye Health program ($56), Victorian Lions Foundation ($200), prostate cancer ($200), Lions Hearing Dogs ($200), Lions Cord Blood ($200), Lions House ($100) and $850 to our local school awards,” he said.

“Our Christmas Carols were a great success and well worth the effort.”
