Surf club pays tribute to its members

PORT Campbell Surf Life Saving Club members gathered to celebrate another busy year for the club.

Club captain Darcy Tribe said the annual dinner was held celebrating the club’s achievement’s in the past 12 months.

“The club’s fortunate to have so many passionate volunteers and supporters. Without their support, we couldn’t do what we do,” he said.

“But the two I would like to highlight is Susanna Ryan and Molly Jones. Both were back-to-back winners of their respective awards.”

Susanna was awarded The David and Marie McKenzie Family Lifesaver of the Year Award for a second season in a row.

“Susanna is an amazing role model for many, on and off the beach,” Mr Tribe said.

“Currently she is the vice captain and youth involvement co-ordinator. She oversees junior involvement within patrols and all aspects of the club.

“She is a confident patrol captain and inflatable rescue boat driver.”

Molly was awarded The John Younis Best Junior Club Person Award for the second season in a row.

“Molly is a natural young leader,” Mr Tribe said.

“She helps out on the club’s special event committee and is a vice patrol captain.

“She continues to lead from the front and lend a hand wherever she can.”

Other awards on the night were:

  • Life membership – Marina Deppeler;

  • The Ross and Andrew Powell Achievement Award – Tracey Heeps and Georgia Copeland;

  • The Peter O’Rorke Power Training and Assessment Award – Che Stone;

  • The Bill Pope Best Patrol Award – Alysa Hibburt, Rob Matthews, Zane Vogels, Ruth Mason, Thea Vogels and Claire McAullife;

  • Most outstanding nipper competitor – Crawford Dunn; and

  • Most outstanding competitive team – The Stingrays U19 male boat crew comprised of Charlie Trotter, Max Rantall, Zeth Kerr, Bobby Gristede and Robbie Morden.
