TERANG Mortlake’s senior footballers will face Cobden this weekend in a battle for fifth spot on the Hampden League ladder.

The Bloods currently sit fifth, just percentage ahead of the sixth-placed Bombers who will be keen to enter the top five.

Round eight last weekend saw Terang Mortlake go down by 28 points to the Warrnambool Blues at Reid Oval.

The Bloods got off to a quick start, kicking 3.4 in the opening term to lead by two points, however, the home side stepped up momentum in the second to go into the main break with a handy nine-point lead.

The Blues then ran with the ball, taking advantage of opportunities in their forward line to break away in the third quarter – extending their lead to 29 points going into the final term.

To the Bloods’ credit, they worked hard in the last and kicked four goals, five behinds – with the Blues adding four goals, four to their scoreline.

Final scores were Warrnambool 15.13.103 to Terang Mortlake 10.15.75.

Best for the Bloods were Ryley Hutchins, Kane Johnstone, Scott Carlin, Alexander Moloney, Max Lower and Xavier Vickers.

Hutchins booted three majors for the side while Joe Arundell kicked two and singles came from Darcy Hutchins, Max Lower, Harvey Roberts, Ned Roberts and Xavier Vickers.

It was a clash of fourth versus fifth in the reserves match earlier in the day, with the fifth-placed Bloods going down by 14 points in a low-scoring affair, 3.9.27 to 5.11.41.

Best for the Bloods were Matty Arundell, Jordan Harris, Jake Lee, Tom Arundell, Liam O’Connor and Henry Roberts.

Goals went to Chris Crawley and Jack Lehmann.

It was a mixed bag of results for the Bloods netballers on the weekend.

Open: Warrnambool defeated Terang Mortlake 60-44. Best players: Emma Lucas, Ava Grundy and Eboni Knights.

Division one: Terang Mortlake defeated Warrnambool 40-34. Best: Brittany Hyland, Jessica Davis and Sarah Davis.

Division two: Warrnambool defeated Terang Mortlake 42-36. Best: Lucy Finnerty, Caitlin Overweter and Sophie Conheady.

Division three: Warrnambool defeated Terang Mortlake 43-28. Best: Zoe Williams, Ava Nolan and Kiarna Murfett.

17 and under: Terang Mortlake defeated Warrnambool 26-20. Best: Millie Scanlon, Holly Jones and Sema Meric.

15 and under: Terang Mortlake defeated Warrnambool 30-10. Best: Lyla Grundy, Emma Hill and Violet Dillon.

15 and under reserves: Warrnambool defeated Terang Mortlake 25-20. Best: Lily Guthrie, Sommer Jones and Tahnee Sachs.

13 and under: Warrnambool defeated Terang Mortlake 20-15. Best: Bella Scanlon and Harpa McMaster.

13 and under reserves: Warrnambool defeated Terang Mortlake 32-17. Best: Charli Jones, Tilly Harrison and Imogen Barr.

Round nine this weekend will see the Bloods head to Cobden to take on the Bombers.
