Young gamers showcase their skills
GAMERS were in seventh heaven at a free video game session in Simpson over the school holidays, which provided youth in the region the perfect opportunity to connect with likeminded peers.
The Simpson and District Community Centre received funding from the Victorian Government as part of YouthFest to host the event.
The event, Level Up, was held at the Simpson and District Public Hall and saw attendees spent the day trialling virtual reality (VR) headsets, as well as the latest generation of gaming consoles and some of the vintage retro consoles.
The different consoles were hosted at various stations, giving participants the opportunity to trial different technologies and experience all gaming has to offer.
Simpson and District Community Centre co-ordinator Debra Smith said she was pleased with how the day went.
“The event went really well,” she said.
“We had 16 turn up out of the 23 registered and they all enjoyed it.
“There was lots of action on the VR headsets, with eight available on the day.”
Mrs Smith said the younger participants enjoyed some “fast paced” video games including titles such as Super Mario Brothers and Minecraft,
Meanwhile, the older participants enjoyed the opportunity to unleash their competitive spirit through multiplayer games such as in Mario Kart.
“There was lots of laughs and camaraderie throughout the day,” Mrs Smith said.
“Level Up was so well worth running.”
